Afghan Hound

This poem I dedicate to my friend and to all other servicemen and women serving away from their loved ones this Christmas.

May God keep you all from harm's way and return you safely to your loved ones.

Afghan Hound

Be safe and sound - Afghan Hound

Especially when projectiles inbound

and unfriendlies like Taliban are around.

Be careful too of the moggies and doggies

as they both might harbour foaming rabies!

Also you know what they say:

Sleep with doggies - Catch flees!

So be careful when on and off duty

especially when stood down to sleep easy!

I’m sure there aren’t too many bees around to sting

but remain wary of Afghans’ gifts - they might bring.

It maybe a very welcoming and lovely pleasant surprise.

(or worse God forbid and bring about - Mortal demise)

So keep mentally alert and thinking cooly on your feet

when enduring duty in blazing and tiring Afghan heat.

(and enjoy one little sweety treat during your stand-easy!)

Keep mind focussed and switched on to task in hand

Don’t let mind wander and many a question ask

Just think hubby, family and beloved England!

It’s now Christmas Eve and you’re far away in Afghan

Hubby, family and friends will be thinking of you and

so before I go and sign off I wish you a Merry Christmas

keep your head down, guard six’o clock and watch oppo

and may God send you blessings from Heaven for 2011

and last words: Return safe and sound - Afghan Hound.

Signing off: ex Matelot Ricardo
