Hello and Goodbye Independence

After conceiving - Life begins swiftly and maternally.

And in mummy’s womb, I’m living life swimmingly!

At nine months the waters break, it is time to leave

the maternal port and see the world all around me!

Next nine months, it is perambulator transporting me.

When not in pram, I’m close to floors; this baby crawls!

Nine months on or thereabouts, first intrepid steps I take

step by step, wobble by wobble, and stumble by stumble

I fall and fall, while others guffaw, then I bawl and bawl!

I get up, I go again and again, never tiring, forever trying!

Months later a toddler I am; I toddle here, I toddle there

New confidence and independence - Get me everywhere!

One year on I start to run around like pre-school moron!

Fly around; pretend to be an airplane in the playground!

Five to eleven - I walk with buddies to school - How cool!

Sometimes my mummy or daddy drive me to the Primary

only when it’s pouring down cats and dogs and so rainy!

Eleven to sixteen - I can cycle into the boring Secondary!

Two wheeled pedal power and no longer pedestrianised!

At sixteen, able to ride a scooter provisionally - Yipeee!

Now motor power but on two wheels - Still good it feels!

At seventeen I learn to drive and if I pass my driving test

parents will help buy second hand car - They’re the best!

No more Learner plates for me I can drive independently!

Oh what bliss! Now take g/f for spin; she’ll give me a kiss!

***

The late teen to middle years pass by; very rapidly fly by!

As old very senior old aged pensioner - Not a safe driver!

Failing eye-sight and slower reflexes, no more can drive!

Hard enough now elderly, I strive to just live and survive!

Need my walking stick everywhere I go these bleedin days!

Next I’ll dread, I will be in that using zimmer frame phase!

(Would love to get one of those fancy golfing type buggies!

but I’d probably end up running over some other elderlies!)

***

Now they are sadly over, the last days of my independence.

Becoming less and less, dwindling too my days of existence.

Soon spirit will leave taking flight when I see that divine light.
