64This is my 113th hub and I thought
I'd write about the number 13 and
its associated phobia. Do you fear this number?

(What a mouthful that is!)
The phobia or fear
of the number 13 - It is.
Unlucky integer - Is this?
(From Devil’s fiery abyss?)
No 13th floors - Many high-rises.
In airliners - 13th aisle not exists.
In hospital or hotel - No 13th rooms.
No 13 in Italian lottery.
And Friday 13 - Is unlucky?
To me tis old folklore
(In China - Unlucky is four!)
Count letters in your name.
If 13 letters - They claim ...
‘Devil’s luck’ it be

(Maybe all just bad karma!)
Are you a ‘trikaidekaphobe’?

Sucked in by superstition.

in cantonese, 13 means "daily rise" or "daily prosper", i think you know that... ;)
Interesting. Makes me wonder about the first ancient peoples to be terrified by the number 13. Perhaps they tried to multiply other numbers into 13 and failed, then began multiplying 13 by other numbers and realized how horrific the number truly is. It's a challenging number, that's for sure. Cheers.
Interesting,a lot of people think the number thriteen is bad luck or to walk under a ladder,or a black cat cross in front of you,all silly superstitions.Fun read.

13 is simply pure magic in my opinion. Number 13 has always been so lucky for me.
My hubby and I were both born on May 13th~ Mothers Day babies ,way back when lol

Yes I agree with you - Numbers are really only a way to quantify and it's only our minds which create certain thoughts and feelings associated with certain numbers for whatever reasons.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and all I can say is that people have always been spooked by this number for whatever reason and I think it's a question of what we choose to believe from others which determines how we feel about a number. Culture greatly influences us in what we think or should think - whether rightly or wrongly.

Yes agree with you Ruby. Someone believes something and then it gets passed along down the line and then it can become ingrained in the majority of people's minds. We can easily be conditioned if we're not careful and so we need to make sure that we're rational when it comes to accepting something which might be true otherwise we will get sucked into the superstition mentality.

My lucky number is 111 which represents 11/1 - the day and month of my wife's birthday. I am lucky and blessed to have her in my life. That's why 111 is lucky for me!

Cheers for your kind comment Denise. This number is very interesting for both its positive and negative sides. Unfortunately most of us tend to look at the downside rather than the upside of most things in life. We need to change the way we see things. Life is too short to be looking in a short-sighted way!

I personally like number 13. I gave birth to my second son on the l3th. I once had a condo that had no l3th floor...oh well. Good Hub, very interesting.
I've always personally steered away from the number but numbers at the end of the day are just a name used to quantify - So what's in a number? It's what people choose to think its is - rightly or wrongly.

Always curious about this phobia. Agree that a number is just a number
It's just another number but unfortunately many people have a negative association with it. What others believe can easily rub off on to others.

Numbers are numbers at the end of the day, it is all our mind and how we think matters! 13 is a just another numbers, you can fear of 1 ans 3 also 13 or any other numbers, but why?
